In the Eye of the Storm
In the Eye of the Storm
Sermon Overview
Date: August 6th, 2017
Speaker: Pastor Michael Larrabee
Location: Full Gospel Mission Stanley-Boyd, WI
Series: Heritage Series
Scripture: Acts 12:1-6; Luke 9:32-35; Matthew 16:23; Mark 14:27-42
Summary: Things are not look so good for Peter. James, one of Jesus’ inner circle has already been put to death and surely to horror of the early church when many within the community, instead of being outraged, were pleased. Herod, the ruler at that time, saw how James’ death pleased the religous authority and had Peter locked up also for a more celebratory execution.
In the midst of such a grim circumstance you might imagine that Peter would be at least bit troubled, but instead we find him fast asleep, resting in his assurance of who God is and His ability to carry him through whatever storms life may have in store for him. Peter was found sleeping at many key points throughout the Gospel, but here Peter was contently snoring in the rest promised by Jesus when He said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”.
